Education:

Research / Job Desription

Teaching:

I teach the Phillip J. Hammond Termite Training School to Pest Management Professionals (PMPs), focusing on termite identification, biology, and hands on control experience with all aspects of preventative and remedial termite control as prescribed by the state of Texas and the Structural Pest Control Board.

Outreach:

Develop funding sources to support research programs in Urban Entomology, provide continuing education courses (CEUs) to PMPs of Texas through both local and regional workshops, Participate nationally in scientific meetings through the presentation of papers and posters and invited presentations on topics specific to urban entomology.

Research:

My research focus is on molecular diagnostics, genetic variation, and phylogenetics of economically important termite species.  My current research focus has been on Area Wide Control Efforts against the Formosan Subterranean Termite Coptotermes formosanus in Texas.  I also evaluate all forms of remedial control technologies designed for termite control including borates, novel insecticide chemistry, termiticide residue analysis, and the development of termite physical barriers in newly constructed homes.  In addition to my termite research, I also have active research interests in cockroaches and bedbugs.
